Day of Giving Challenges Inspire Student Philanthropy

Day of Giving 2024From March 19-20, 2024, Franklin & Marshall College undertook its fifth annual , the College’s largest donor-based campaign of the year. For 1,787 minutes — an homage to F&M’s founding year — the community came together to demonstrate their belief in F&M and its mission.

Donors supported the Franklin & Marshall Fund by choosing to make unrestricted gifts to go directly to the areas of greatest impact or by making gifts to financial aid, academic excellence, student experience, community & belonging and Diplomat Athletics.

For weeks leading up to Day of Giving, reached out to their friends and classmates to raise awareness of the campaign and encourage early giving. Alumni and parents provided more than 20 challenges (additional funds that are unlocked when a certain number of gifts or dollars in specific categories were recorded) and matches (funds that double the impact of an individual's gift by providing a dollar-for-dollar incentive).

Among the 2024 Day of Giving challenges were two student-focused incentives offered by the College’s Parents Council. A $5,000 contribution was unlocked when 50 seniors from the Class of 2024 made a gift, and another $5,000 was secured when 100 students from any class participated. These opportunities — alongside outreach and programming by Dollars for Dips, F&M's student philanthropy organization — inspired students to join the Day of Giving effort.

Thanks to the collaboration and dedication of donors and volunteers, the campaign raised more than $558,000, providing critical resources for F&M students.

F&M's sixth annual Day of Giving will take place March 18-19, 2025. To learn how you can offer a match or a challenge or participate in one of our many outreach and volunteer opportunities, contact alumni@fandm.edu.
